Am I protected?

Marissa
So I recently just restarted taking the pill due to complications and I'm on the first month I take Tricira Lo (Norgestinate and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets) I start the sugar pills on Sunday so this is my last week before my period and I just had sex with my boyfriend and the condom broke but we didn't know till after and he came in me twice so would I be protected right now or should I see about getting plan b? (We're both currently really broke and can't afford it at this moment till he gets paid next week so I need to know if I'm protected)

As long as you've been taking it correctly and haven't missed any in the last week you're fine.

Most contraceptives are effective within 7 days. The pill doesn't build uterine lining. It stops you ovulating and creates thicker cervical mucous. You're protected after a week in most cases.

It does take a month to work even if you are taking it correctly. That's why in the pamphlet it says to use protection still for up to 3 weeks after starting. You have to give the pill time to build a lining on your uterus

They probably say that because most people will likely be forgetful in their first month! Have you read the pamphlet that comes with it?
