Surprise Wedding. Anyone had one, been to one, or have an opinion or advice for one? please!!

Question

So after seeing my sister bombarded by everyone telling her how to have her wedding and being stressed for all of the things she didn't want to do but had to do, my SO and i have decided to have a surprise wedding. 
We don't want all of the BS that people say and we want it our way. 
Any advice on how to pull it off?
Or any parents out there who have children who did this and didn't like it?

A friend of mine & his wife sent out engagement party invites and surprised everyone with it being their actual wedding. It was a great idea. We considered it but decided an elopement was more what we wanted

My husband and I planned our wedding in 8 weeks at a little inn. It was perfect. Just our parents, two siblings were witnesses and his grandpa. We had my moms minister and I had a really wedding gown and vail. We had a photographer as well. It was so perfect, no stress and at the end of the day it was perfect for us. The next weekend we had a "family BBQ " and told the rest of the family and a few friends that were able to make it. 
We didn't want gifts or stress and just wanted something small and intimate. Follow your heart and don't apologize for wanting something different. It's your day!

My mom was that way. She was sending me stuff and telling me she was going to buy decorations that SHE liked, and it has nothing to do with what i wanted. My husband and i ended up having a courthouse wedding and then went out to dinner with 40 family members and friends. My mom was so mad at me and she keeps asking if we are having a reception when its something we aren't interested in, but i wouldn't change a thing about our wedding day. Oir wedding date was supposed to be october of this year, we ended up getting married in January.

We considered doing this, but ended up having a destination wedding with only immediate family (less than a dozen people). If we had done a surprise wedding, I would have sent out invitations for a dinner party or engagement party, I think it would have been super fun!

All i can think of is like having a small wedding and like send invites like ic it were a party or gathering and they won't know until they get there.
