Help!

Is it normal that my period has gotten worse this past week since I started birth control? It has gradually gotten heavier and more painful. I started my period on monday and I also started the pill on monday. I don't know what the heck is going on. My doctor didn't really explain it to me she just put me on it. I have never taken bc before and I'm not sexually active yet.
