I did. And guess what? We're as happy as can be. His mother never liked me for him. As a matter of fact she would make him chose between her and I at times. Which is messed up. She even likes to talk badly about our baby girl. Saying that she's not his daughter. Petty. We are better off without them. No one needs toxic people involved in their lives.

Yep, and eventually drove a wedge between us. Dated for 7 years, married for one and now divorced. But turns out he's a jerk who never stood up for me with his family so.... Couldn't be happier with my new man :)

Not me, but my grandfathers mom didn't like my grandma because she was Catholic. She was mean to my grandma until the day his mom passed away (about a month ago) my grandfather and grandma have been together for 52 years and they never listened to her.

My MIL has become more disrespectful towards me since our Engagment.. A lot of choose between me or "your woman"😒.  She doesn't like that fact that another person can love and take care of her son as she has. The rest of the family consigns our relationship so... She has no choice but to come around.

Yup! Neither my husband nor I have a great relationship with our families. Both grew up in abusive homes. He never met my family until we had been married for months, and I met most of his immediate family at our courthouse wedding. We never cared what anyone thought or had to say. We were (and are) happy with each other and now our little family.

My MIL would have preferred an arranged marriage for her son, a women of her choosing. That just didn't happen. We ended up getting married when she was out of the country so there was nothing she could do about it. She lives with us now and plays "nice" as we have a baby now.
