Induction

Rachael • I'm a 34 year old RN and mother of three (soon to be four). Kinda feel like a 1st time mom, since my youngest is 12!
So. I want to know other people's actual thoughts/opinions/experiences.
I don't believe in induction unless medically necessary. For example: preeclampsia, decreased fetal movement, etc. not just because you hit 41 weeks, or you just don't want to be pregnant anymore.
In my experience, induction can lead to more problems. My mom was induced because they believed my brother was getting too big. So they induced her at 37 weeks. He was 9 lb 3 oz, but had to stay in the NICU for almost two weeks due to being extremely jaundiced.  My sister in law was induced at 37 weeks for preeclampsia, and my niece ended up I the NICU for three days because she had trouble regulating blood sugars.
I know that these things can happen with or without induction. My three kids were all late. One was due October 23, born October 31 (Halloween baby!!), one was due October 28, born November 9, and the last one was due June 7, didn't come till June 23.
My current doctor says that he will induce at 41 weeks. All of my babies were healthy, no problems (my oldest had a cleft lip and palette, but that had nothing to do with it), and we went home after 48 hours (by choice, I like the hospital and all the help).
Thoughts on induction?
