What does measuring ahead or behind means?

Question

I'm not nor I have in my pregnancies. I always seen it and was just wonder if you're measured ahead, does your due date change? Or just baby is big? Or vice versa with being behind? I'm up lol can't sleep so maybe baby 101 can help.

I've always measured ahead at least a week and a half with all three pregnancies. My first born was 9.12 my second was 9.8 and I'm hoping for a smaller baby this time. But she's measuring a week ahead and fundal is measuring a week and a half ahead.

I have measured ahead with all of my boys. Dr. has never changed due date except for at the first sono. I do tend to have bigger boys though. My biggest was 9 lbs 11 oz. I am 24 weeks and already measuring ahead with this pregnancy. Praying he won't be as big!! Lol.

I think they only change your estimated due date if baby measures more than 2 weeks ahead or behind during your anatomy ultrasound or earlier ultrasound; later ultrasounds aren't reliable for dating because babies tend to vary in size and length further along than 22 weeks. But they do measure your fundal height after 23 weeks to make sure your pregnancy is progressing as it should because everyone's fundal growth should progress about the same throughout pregnancy; deviation from the normal range can indicate an issue.

Earlier ultrasounds are most accurate for a due date, they won't change it is the measurements are off later on. If you are measuring ahead/behind then the baby is bigger/smaller than is average for that week. I'm 25 weeks and so far my son has measured right on time.

I started measuring behind at the end of my first and second pregnancies and there was concern about IUGR... Sent me for ultrasounds to check size, they both were just small. I believe the doctors keep an eye on it because it can be a sign that the placenta is failing or that there may be other issues affecting the baby, like if they're too big, they could end up needing a c section or having issues such as positional club feet or hip dysplasia (both happened to my nephew) :-/

Not sure exactly what it means but my midwife told me I measured 2 weeks behind my whole pregnancy with my first and this pregnancy as well. My first baby came at 36 weeks and was 6lbs which is pretty good weight for 36 weeks  lol so I don't know if it has anything to do with how big baby is.
