Quick to induce?

I'm 11 weeks and this happened at 5. So at 5 weeks I had an appt because of bleeding, they did an ultrasound and everything looked good however they did move my due date from dec. 2 to dec. 15. So I'm a teacher and just as an aside comment, I said "wouldn't that be awesome if it waited until Christmas break" which is the 21st. The nurse then responded, "well if it isn't here by the 20th, we'd induce"

That comment really rubbed me the wrong way, one of my biggest fears is being pushed to induce, pushed to get an epidural, pushed to use pitocin, then pushed to do a c-section.

Should I say something to my dr. about the comment? Or just let it go? Realistically, I think I'll probably end up having this baby earlier than my due date, but it freaks me out how trigger happy the whole system seems to be.

You don't have to do anything you don't want to. They cannot force u to do induce if ur not ready. And 5 days after the due date is not enough time to give u to go into labor naturally. Both my babes were 10days "late" and perfectly healthy. I might look into finding another doctor, tho, one that is more in line with ur way of thinking so u don't have to fight about ur rights as a mother

I wouldn't give too much credit to the off hand remark the nurse made. Now had your doctor said it, that would be concerning.

They may encourage you to consider an induction past your due date, but you're not obligated to do it. I'm sure you'll be able to go over your birth plan with your doctor and they're usually good about supporting it as long as there isn't a medical concern.

I was induced a couple days before my due date because I had preeclampsia. I never thought that would happen to me, it was my first baby. My point is, you're still so early in your pregnancy, try not to worry about it. A lot can happen. And even though I wish it had gone differently my baby was healthy and that's all that matters. Usually they won't induce you until about 42 weeks because they prefer you to go into labor on your own. I think it may have just been bad communication on your providers part, but ask about it next time you go in to ease your mind. Just try to worry less until then, it's a long way off.

I totally agree with you. Keep in mind though at a certain point it does become dangerous for you and baby to wait, I believe 42 weeks is the end of the safety zone but it also depends on the size of the baby. Maybe get
A midwife or do some research so you can be more informed, I find that when I show doctors I know what I'm talking about I get more respect and communication

I would say something too! Some babies take 42 weeks to be ready so be it! I am afraid of all those things you are too, Caitlin. We have to speak for ourselves... Here in Brazil 97% of deliveries in Private Hospitals/with Insurance are trough C-Sections! There is a "medical mafia" here because it's easier for them, quicker and they receive more money from the insurance when it's C-Section. We have public and free health care available for everyone but it's not that good... But at least in public health the C-Section deliveries fall to 48%... Just now brazilians are paying attention to those numbers and realizing those are not good! But we still have millions of women that are deceived to have a C-Section... So I think it's our obligation to say something when we feel something is not right... Because most women are too afraid or really trust their doctors to say something...

I agree with you which is why I use a midwife at a freestanding birth center. If I am healthy and having a good pregnancy why not use a place and person that centers around my care and comfort along with baby's care? There will be cases that need the hospitals and doctors as I did for my first and that is great that they are there to help! Thank God for them they have their place for sure. I feel like our bodies were design for this so if a woman does not need the extra help we CAN do it nautrally. Good luck! You should let your doc know your wishes and find out what their procedures are. If you do not agree with them find a new doctor. Do not wait to switch though as it gets harder to find a doctor the further along you get.

They legally can't force you and if the baby is healthy there would be no reason so i would tell them that part of your birth plan is to wait and not to induce until YOU feel it is absolutely necessary and want it. I hate when they say they will induce on certain dates. I told my dr i will not induce unless baby is in danger or beyond 2 weeks late.

Or you might want to talk to the doctor directly. Every doctor approaches it deferentially, and you need a doctor who is going to support your birth plan, not follow a procedure that isn't specific to your pregnancy. If the doctor says that's what they do, I'd probably switch,
