How to wake for a feeding?

Question

Do you ladies wake baby up to feed them? Or just let them wake up by themselves? My baby is 48 hrs old and I'm only breastfeeding for now. She sleeps and wakes herself up showing me ques that she's wants some boob. But when I pick her up, she latches, takes like 2-3 sucks and then falls asleep again. Any suggestions. Please don't bash, FTM TIA.

Newborns are hard to wake. I suggest waking baby up however is reasonable to get them to feed. A diaper change, tickling the feet, wet wash cloth to the face, undressing them, etc. have all worked for me.

With such a young baby I wouldn't worry yet, they'll wake up when they're hungry. If you start to notice them wetting less or loosing weight try undressing them first before shocking them awake, that's more traumatic, and once they are comforted by you holding them they could relax and fall back asleep. Just a thought.

In the early days we woke up our LO to feed him.  We were letting him feed on demand, but he developed jaundice and lost a lot of weight so our midwife said not to let him go more than 4 hours without eating no more than once a day.  When he was jaundice he was very hard to wake up.  We had to take off his clothes, rub his neck and even put ice cubes on his feet.  He is now 3.5 weeks, over his birth weight and we are letting him dictate feeding schedules now.  He is usually every 3 hours, sometimes less, sometimes more.

Nope. Never woke up my baby. How could I?? She needs sleep. She'd wake up if she was hungry. But she's 3 months now and sleeps 12 hours a night. She only woke up once or twice a night for the first three weeks and then started sleeping 10 hours a night by a month old. I would never wake her up to feed her! Let your baby sleep! Their body is going through some SERIOUS changes and they need it!!! They'll wake up if they're hungry, don't worry!!!!

My daughter would not stay awake for anything!! I set an alarm on my phone to wake her up to feed if she didn't wake up on her own (only had to wake her a couple times 👍🏼). I tried everything on all of the lists I'd ever read. If get s few sucks from her and she'd be back asleep. I swore she was starving to death and it was my fault because I couldn't wake her. Her diapers were good and she ended up gaining all of her weight back by her second docs visit.  Like my mom told me, when she's hungry, she'll make sure to eat! Good luck mama!

Mine did this they called him a lazy suckers also have semi flat nipples with apparently make it a little more difficult for him although they said he should still be able to latch/suck just fine he just chooses not to. Nipple shields made a world of difference for this he now latches and sucks without falling right to sleep.

My baby wouldn't be able up for feedings when she was first born. I almost had to supplement. I found that if I kept moving a wipe all over her face she would wake up. I stopped waking her up throughout the night when she was about 2.5 weeks old. She's 3 months now and still sleeps through the night. Maybe your baby will be like that as well, it's a wonderful thing lol. When she was first born I changed her diaper, undressed her, moved her around, played with her. Eventually she would wake up but it helped with a wipe to her face

My nurses showed me to kind of lift his arm like he's doing the chicken dance to get him interested again.

Only wake them until they're at birth weight. Wake up by taking clothes off, diaper change, tickling ears
