You can always check yourself, you don't have to wait till doc does it. My midwife told me how to check it @ home . If you can't reach you can always have your SO do it haha just make sure you wash your hands and the gloves before you check.

3cm dilated. Had a membrane sweep done today at 39 weeks 5 days. Due June 2nd. C'mon baby!

You won't really know until your doctor starts checking. It's not really something you can feel happening. My office starts doing cervical checks at 37 weeks.
