Need help with a lie

So my mothers damn yorkie (she doesn't train him, eats from good china while she complains that he's spoiled, blah blah blah that type of dog) managed to find a bunch of tiny kittens huddled under the porch of the work shop. He maimed one, ripping the leg from the socket but it lived and started in on another one when mom found them.

She takes the dog away and the two that's hurt. she is was a vet tech for 14 years and was married to a vet, and put the leg back in place then puts them back out there. Well momma cat took off with the rest of them and rejected the two hurt ones. Which happens sometimes.

So my mother calls me to come get them because she "hates" cats and she doesn't want them. I've been wanting some new babies but am a college student that lives with my dad for support and we already have 3 adult cats and recently a emaciated stray that won't leave, but I can't let him starve to death (he lives outside only).

Which brings me to my dad, who's a nice guy at heart but is 70 and developed "I'm a old grouchy man" syndrome a few years ago. I'm living in his house, he may not want me to keep these cats. I don't know of the truth is good enough or if he'll even believe that story. Idk. I need some advice. Momma cat is definitely gone because mom left then out as long as possible and she never came, they were starting to starve and the flies were trying to lay eggs on them. I can't let her put then back outv there and she's already asked other people to take them and they don't want them either.
