When to start chores

Question

What do you think a good age is to start chores? Do you think some chores can start earlier than others? I know some people started doing their own laundry when they could reach which could be a young age, while something like cooking and yard work might be at an older age. Also do you believe children should be able to make an allowance for chores?

At my day care center, children as young as 18 months can help put toys and books away. The teachers help of course, but the children are more than capable of following dorections and helping us clean up.

My 2 year old has chores. She helps me make her bed and she picks up her toys when she's done playing with them. I think it's good to start teaching them responsibility at a young age. But of course....the chores should be age appropriate

My kids are 2, 3, 3, & 6. They have chores, of course age appropriate chores, but chores none the less. My two yr old has to help pick up and she likes to help dust. She has a little broom so she gets to help sweep, and she likes to water the animals and help with dishes. My 3 year olds they get to help feed all the animals, pick up their rooms, clean, laundry, etc. My 6 year old since he is bigger he gets to help dad outside with yard work, helps build things/rebuild the horse fence, plus he has to help with inside chores as well.. It's never to early to get them on chores. Kids nowadays at the age of 2/3 can use smartphones, then there's no reason they should be able to lift a broom

As soon as their old enough to understand a two year old is old enough to know how to pick up toys with help

My 2 year old puts her dishes in the sink when she is done, picks up her toys after playing, feeds her kitten (she started doing that on her own), & puts her undies and socks in her drawer while I'm doing laundry.

My step daughter started having chores at about 4. She makes her own bed and cleans up after herself with food and toys. She is now 6 and likes to help with cooking like stirring things or will make her own sandwiches and salads. She also likes folding so she helps with folding laundry or putting clothes on hangers. She does the dusting in the house as well only the things she can reach.
