The rug is beautiful but...in my humble opinion.. too much darkenes....Idk I would change the rug and if patterns is what you are after, I would fill that sofa with pillows . If you can't or won't return the rug, I'd suggest a mirror to open up the place and light colored pillows with pretty patterns to brighten  up that sofa.  Nice pieces, tho!

Add a Colored pillow or coloured throw blanket thing(the little ones I don't really know what they are specifically called) I love that rug
