DPO and positive OPK

Hello, I'm new to OPKs (and the whole TTC to be honest, #1 happened on the first trial, no such luck this time).
If I understood correctly, positive OPK indicates LH surge which induces ovulation within the next 36 hours, right?. How can I count DPO days without knowing the exact day of ovulation? Or do I just count from the possible OPK?
