Belly button leaking?

So this is my fourth child and all their umbilical cords have all fallen off around the same time. With this baby it fell off on day 8 but now the past few days her belly button is leaking. Any advice? I'm considering a doctor visit? Is there something I can put on it at home? Rubbing alcohol? Oh and she is 3 weeks old today.

My daughter had the same. Pedi told us to use Q-tips with warm water when we change her to clean it and then to keep it dry. It ended up bleeding slowly for a few days after the gunk cleared. Then it all stopped and her belly button looks perfect!

Is it puss? Blood? Just a little? Or a lot? My daughters had a little bit of green discharge then a little bit of blood occasionally for a few days after it fell off. I called the triage nurse at her dr office and they said it was normal. Just clean it with a q tip and alcohol several times a day. Unless there's redness all around it, swelling, tender to touch, or if baby has a fever, it's probably okay. But call your doc just to check in about it, it'll reassure you 😊
