Friday June 10th my husband and I went to our routine 35w checkup, I had been experiencing some itchy skin and brought up my symptoms and they decided that my liver enzymes were elevated enough that they were sending us over to the birthing pavilion to begin the induction process. Very scary as I was not planning on having my baby 5 weeks early but I came to terms with it and then they had us wait. And wait. And wait. They didn't want to induce us if we didn't have to because of me only being 35 weeks pregnant which I was thankful for because even though they kept saying she would be okay it's still scary to have your baby at what they consider before full term. So Saturday rolls around and they finally decide that my liver is just getting worse and worse and they don't know what I have or what is causing it so they start my induction process. I was on 4 different IV bags getting blood taken from me every 4 hours with crappy veins, also every 4 hours I am having to be checked for dialation and have miso pills inserted by my cervix to soften it. And I have had to have two steroid shots to make sure baby's lungs would be okay.  All while being stressed from not knowing what was happening. Saturday night I start pitocin and the baby's heart rate kept dropping during the contractions so they have everyone come in and explain the risks of c-section, so I was scared because obviously this is major abdominal surgery but if that's what it takes to get a healthy happy baby I'm all for it lets go, then they decide I'm fourth in line for c-section and give me a break off the pitocin and say in 20 mins they are going to restart pitocin at the lowest level and re check how baby does on it and low and behold she is fine this time! So we rebegin the induction process. This whole time I am only dialated to 1 cm and about 25% effaced. They then decide to use a folley balloon and detached part of my placenta in the process so I was now just bleeding a lot on top of everything else. Then I finally start getting contractions and have been in labour since Saturday afternoon this is late Saturday night and they check me and I am still only 1 cm. at this point I have been awake since early friday I'm exhausted, I thought I was making progress and have made absolutely none, so I break down and am crying because of all the build up so they gave me two more shots of something and that allowed me to sleep for a few hours. When I woke up they decided they wanted to try another folley balloon and I reluctantly agreed because of how awful the first time went. This time was wonderful and I was dilated to 3-4cm within 2 hours. And then they broke my water and I decided I wanted to get into the bathtub and labor in there for a while. So my grandmother texted my husband telling him I was in the tub laboring because my gram and I had told him to go get a walk in before anything were to start happening. My husband came back and I remember him coaching me through my contractions in the tub and the nurses after about half hour decided I needed to get out of the tub and to the bed. At this point I had had almost no relief between my natural bodily contractions and the contractions the pitocin were causing so I wanted and epidural but was trying so hard to stick with my birth plan of a natural birth. My husband told me to give it just 10 minutes and if I still wanted an epidural to get it and just assured me that it was my choice and he would support what I wanted. I decided I had to try and go pee and as soon as I went to squat on the toilet I was in such severe pain that I couldn't squat I couldn't stand up I could find no relief and told my nurse I had to push. She said we are getting out of this bathroom now and got me back to the bed where she had a doctor come check me and sure enough I was ready to push!! Less than 20 minutes of pushing and my baby girl was here!! I have never gone through so much to achieve something so so great but I would do it all over a million times to get my little girl here safe!
