Obesity- is it child abuse?

Question

I've seen a lot lately where people are considering childhood obesity child abuse. And that the parents should be punished for it. (Not talking about the children who actually have a disability/disease that cause them to be like that). 
So I was just wondering- what are your opinions on it?

Absolutely. It's your responsibility to make sure your child is healthy. It's child abuse to feed them too much and it's child abuse to feed them too little.

Depends.. often people think I'm not being fed/anorexic because I'm 105 pounds @ 5'5 but anyone that knows me knows I eat like a pig. There's more than meets the eye sometimes

As a kindergarten teacher it really upsets me. I feel so bad for some kids. Once a mom told me about her daughter, "her doctor tells me she's overweight and needs to eat healthier, but when my baby asks me for her favorite foods, I just can't say no." Once I saw this girl eat an entire can of Pringles at a basketball game, and then ask for money for more snacks.

I'm lucky to have a good metabolism and haven't been overweight, but  I learned really bad habits as a kid- I snacked on junk all the time and never exercised. My husband is the opposite and his family was very active and gardened and snacked on veggies.

I envy him so much because it's just natural to him to eat healthy and work out, while for me it's a constant struggle. It's on parents to teach those habits!

Honestly it just depends. There are definitely some circumstances that I would say yes, and others I would say no! Every body, every family and every metabolism is different. I eat less and more often than my family, but I still am overweight. I have been since I was 10-12. My brother is a stick and shoves his face, and my sister is average everything. We grew up with home cooked meals and lots of veggies (we love our vegetables!).
