When do they check to see if your dilating?

I'm 37 weeks today and have no idea if I'm dilating. All I know is baby is head down. Do you have to ask the Dr to check if your dilating?

My doctor doesn't like checking because it could cause contractions. They will only check if it's absolutely needed

At my doctors they don't check till after 38 weeks unless you're having contradictions or want to be checked.

With my last pregnancy he checked at 36 weeks because that's when he also does the GBS swab

I work at an obgyn office and we automatically check u at 36 weeks.
