Ultrasounds harmful to the baby?

Has anyone heard that multiple ultrasounds are harmful to the baby?  My OB is against doing more than 3 and it really bothers me that she won't even give me the option. Does anyone know of any harmful side effects of ultrasounds?

If everything is fine, three seems like plenty.... Why would you need more?

Three is pretty standard unless there are known complications

I'm sure there is some research somewhere about it having possible harmful elements

Radiation to the baby or something like that. But if you've suffered an infant loss in pregnancy before I think they should consider you high risk and give you an ultrasound at every check up. I was under the impression that that was standard procedure but I could be wrong.

I had at least 25 with my twins. They are fine. If they weren't, I don't think doctors would do as many. The reason they don't do a lot for some people is because of how costly they can be. My babies came out perfect and healthy!

My dr had the same stance, he said you don't want to do too many unless it's absolutely necessary. They are looking into a possible correlation of the 3D ultrasounds causing autism. The particular brain neurons which are affected by autism form between 18-30 weeks, which is when many people get the 3D scan, so they think it might be disrupting the neuron development. Pretty interesting. I had two long 3D ultrasounds (one in which my belly got warm!) during that time of gestation, and my son shows no signs of autism. So who knows!

Your not supposed to have the option of choosing how many scans to have. 3 is a standard amount and is enough. That's all you need. Some people only get 2. You only get more if your high risk so consider yourself lucky

I'm 31 weeks and ive only had one ultrasound (@ 19 weeks) be lucky that you'll get 3. 😩

That study is very flawed. It was if you had an ultrasound every day for like 8 hours a day or something like that. I have to have an ultrasound at least once a month due to being high risk. Same with my son, no issues with him.

There was a study a while back about lab rats who got ultrasounds for 7 hours every day of their pregnancy and that's when researchers first noticed complications. But our ultrasounds are #1- much shorter than 7 hours per day and not done every day. They're perfectly harmless. Unless you do it for 7 hours a day. Lol
