Question

Why is prince William the 'Duke of Cambridge' and Prince Harry the duke of Wales and Charles of Wales as well? 
I dont get it why their children get like a city or area ?
Dont judge please I'm American and thats interesting, sadly our teachers dont tell us about international stuff like that...
Oh and is their last name Windsor ? Because on Wikipedia it only says Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and his titles are followinf.

England conquered Wales about 800 years ago and thereafter the heir to the throne was given the title Prince of Wales. In 1603 King James VI of Scotland inherited the English throne, creating a single kingdom covering the entire island of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).

I believe it's an old tradition because kings and Queens would send their kids off to other sections of the country and have them rule basically to teach them how to govern when one day they take over the country. So their title shows which part of the country they govern and are in charge of.

Technically they're last name is Windsor, as the royal family lives in Windsor castle.

The Royal family doesn't have a last name, mainly just titles.

So duchess of Cambridge, duke of Windsor etc, etc, etc.
