Zofran - is it safe?

I'm 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant and have had severe nausea for just under a week. To the point I can't even eat. My dr. Prescribed me Zofran for anti-nausea. Has anyone else taken this? Is it safe? I read something online that said it could cause birth defects but when I asked my dr and the pharmacist they said it's safe. What are your thoughts?

I've taken it through two pregnancies and so have many many others. There is a very very small risk of cleft palet. Otherwise no risk of miscarriage or any bring like that. It's a bigger risk of miscarriage if the baby isn't able to get nutrients due to morning sickness.

It's a category B. It is not known to cause spotting at all. I don't know where you doctor got that from. I'm a medical research scientist and from all of the case studies I've read it's very unlikely for something bad to happen. Literally almost 0%. If I were throwing up or hardly able to eat I would take it. Your baby needs nutrients!!

I had to take it with both of my previous pregnancies. Both babies were born full term with no problems at all. If you're vomiting enough that they ordered it, trust your Dr that it's in your best interest.

I took zofran for 4 months straight with my first pregnancy for severe nauseous and vomiting and my son was born completely healthy no issues. This time around I've had no nausea so far...I'm 6 weeks exactly.  Good luck!

I've taken them in the past actually a generic one but it worked a bit for me

I'm 7w and currently put on it; was on phenergan the last week didn't help

It would probably be fine but my doctor said it can cause spotting which would freak me out too much. I would try natural remedies first if you haven't already. Best wishes!
