Why is America more prone to mass shootings than any other western country?

I just read this headline and it got me thinking... Do gun laws really work? If so why doesn't America implement similar laws to those in Australia?

I'm going to sound bat-sh*t crazy for saying this.... But I think our mass shootings go beyond gun laws. 
(Please, if my number are wrong, correct me) 
We are the #1 most stressed out country in the world 
The #1 drug in America are antipsychotics. 
American consumed 80% of the worlds pain killers.

I think these shootings go deeper than just owning a gun.

Making drugs illegal didnt work. Robbery is illegal.  Underage drinking is illegal. Yet hmmm... all of these things still happen.  If you dont think guns cant still be gotten ahold of after their illegal in america then you really need to rethink things. Criminals dont care. Most criminals use unregistered guns. Which come into america the same way illegal drugs do. Plus it only makes law abiding people victims. This is my opinion so leave your opinions on my opinion to yourself. Im not here to debate.

Before people even discuss laws my biggest pet peeve is people don't even know what they're talking about when it comes to guns. Know what kind of gun you're talking about and know how to talk about it. Not every gun is made to be a machine gun.

Mass shootings make up quite a small percentage of the US's gun violence issues. Suicide holds the biggest percentage of gun violence in the US and homicide comes second.

Illegalising guns won't do anything. TBH it probably just mean that guns are more likely to get into the wrong hands.

America's gun violence has many facets. One such is that we don't take disabilities seriously. Part of the argument for guns is that "mentally ill will find a way" but why let it get to that point?? Why not stop it before it even buds?

We could use restrictions and put more focus on our people with disabilities. I am not saying all that commit gun violence have a disability, but a decent sized portion of what the stats consider gun violence is suicide by gun, and the majority of suicide survivors when given treatment don't try again, but when you use a gun you don't get that second chance. It's much more final.

I think the American media enjoys pumping fear into their people, and their reaction to something is "oh fuck, I need a gun for those 2 seconds it takes to walk to the mailbox". In America it's like "fuck everyone's got guns, I need a gun".

Whereas here it's more like "lol shit ok" and we teach our children emergency numbers, the number for the direct line to the police, make sure we have access to the cricket bat in the shed, give our kids emergency phones then stop worrying after a week because we KNOW Ivan Milat isn't getting out of gaol anytime soon.

It's a really deep seeded thought in America that people need guns- it's in the constitution damnit! But I seriously don't understand why some restrictions aren't in place. For example, this week a bill where people on the FBI watch lists can't buy guns was blocked. If you're a suspected terrorist in the United States you can legally go buy guns. Or automatic rifles/assault rifles/anything like that- they're designed to kill people. Civilians don't need to own them.

I think it's sad that there aren't common sense restrictions. If things didn't change after a bunch of children were killed at Sandy Hook, I don't think they'll change now.
