Advice/Tips Please?!

Question

So my son turned a year old a couple weeks ago. I've decided I want to start potty training him. But this is my first child, and I have no idea what's the best way to go about it. I have a little training potty thing. I got it out for him today & put it in my living room floor to let him check it out. So far, he's sat in it twice & picked it up and carried it around 3 times lol. Other than that, he's not done anything with it. I haven't yet started trying to get him to go in the potty. I'm a single mom, father is not in the picture. How do you know when a boy has to go potty? What's the best way to get him to go? I've been told to put a cheerio in it & tell him to aim. And I was also told that when he starts pulling on his diaper that it's time to start getting him out of them. He's just started pulling on his diaper this past week. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! TIA 😘.
Edit- I'm not asking if you think it's the right age or not. I'm asking for tips on how to potty train a boy. If you don't have any tips, please don't comment. Thanks.

Try a reward system. Also, try just sitting him on it for stretches of time. Be aware though that he may not be ready and you may have to take a break and resume in a few months. :)

It's no young. If the boy goes he goes. I potty trained my son by putting it in the bathroom. And he would sit there when I went. So he got comfortable around it. I took the diaper off and we went peepee every 10 15 mins. There was accidents but that's part of the process. So don't get frustrated. He finally got it after a month. He's been potty trained for almost 3 years. He's 4 years 3 months.

That's really really young to start trying to potty train. He doesn't have conscious control of those muscles at all yet. You might be better off to sit him on the potty (with his diaper on) anytime you notice he is going in his diaper so that he associates that sensation with that location, but truly most kids don't have the ability to potty train that young.

We used tonput cheerios in the potty and told them to aim for it. But in my 1 yr old class we don't potty train until 2. We put them in pull ups and have them sit on the potty every 15-30 min to try. We reward them if they are dry and go with fruit, sticker charts, etc. When they get to where they can tell us they need to go we ask the parents to bring in big boy and girl underwear.

I believe that's too young for them to be able to tell when they need to go. But you're doing the right thing by getting him interested now so when the time comes he's not scared. Just keep sitting him on it every now and again and if he pees even a few drops make a big show and dance and clap. To keep him there longer try reading a story or playing with his favourite toys while on there etc.

He's only 1 he may not be ready yet so you may just have trial and error for now so don't push too hard. My son was almost 3 when we started cuz that's when he was ready to do it and not before.
