Angry rant about work and carelessness of management

Mina
I work in a paint store and normally I'm not around anything even potentially hazardous because my coworkers take care to make sure I'm not forced to deal with any of it. So, our ceilings were painted last night, which shouldn't be an issue, but my coworker and I show up this morning and it smells terrible. The paint was supposed to be okay for us to be around, but the painters that were hired didn't ventilate the area at all, so it wasn't dried yet, it was dripping wet paint, it was supposed to be Dry Fall so it shouldn't be wet at all by the time it falls the 15-20 feet to our counters. We put on some masks so we wouldn't be breathing in nearly as much of it. We called our assistant manager since our manager is on vacation out of the country right now, like he was flying when we opened the store this morning, and he was like I don't care it smells terrible, is making you both feel sick, and customers are complaining about the smell, suck it up. His exact words were suck it up. I'm 28 weeks pregnant, and my coworker is another young woman and I assume he thought we were just being babies about it. I looked up the safety sheet on the product used and it can cause respiratory problems and contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, and reproductive problems in the state of California. When I read that and told my coworker, she was like, nope. You are going home. Not worth it at all. I'll call and yell at our assistant manager about this. He had been ignoring our calls after we called and spoke to him twice. I was there for less than an hour and I came home smelling like nasty chemicals and the smell soaked into my clothes, hair, and skin. My fiancé was shocked and disgusted that they didn't even look at if the product was safe for us to be around when it was drying. Why would you schedule a pregnant woman to work less than 12 hours after the room was painted if you weren't sure if it was safe for her to be around? We are just so angry about this. If I hadn't thought to look up the safety information we wouldn't have known it was unsafe for us, especially me, to be around. Just because it's water based doesn't mean it isn't dangerous. I'm just really upset about the careless of the people overseeing my store and the project.
