Midwife or obgyn???

Question

I'm trying to decide on a midwife or obgyn for delivery. I was hoping to get some input from people who've had one or the other or both. The pros and cons... Thanks for ur help!!

Interview both!! See what you prefer. I went with a midwife, but I'm having a laid back water birth at home. More personal experience for me, plus I like spending an hour + building a relationship then just being s file and rushed out after 15 min. Google questions, and ask them both the same then pick who you like answered the questions better. Everyone is different, and likes different things. :) hope this helps. I know it's a big decision, but you have time to choose.

I went with ob and honestly kind of regret it. With my first I was 19 and after being induced I felt like she was rushing me and after I didn't dilate fast enough she said it was time for c-section. I was young and didn't know my options well.

I'm more high risk so going with OB. I'm all for midwives, but sometimes medical intervention is necessary. I've been in a deliver as a new nurse (years ago) where a midwife was running things. Baby came out blue and not making a sound. Midwife was all about holding up baby for mom to see. Of course mom was waiting for the cry but it was not going to come by holding the baby up and "letting nature take over". My precepting nurse literally snatched that baby from the midwife's hands, suctioned and provided oxygen. That baby girl pinked up and started crying and mom was much happier. I'm all for midwives in low risk pregnancies, but there are certified nurse midwives and non-certified midwives. Go with certified because you never know.

I had both at my OB's office. Personally, I liked the OB better because they're an actual doctor. I ended up having to have an emergency c section & no midwife can do that. You never know how your pregnancy will be 😊
