How to start the pill

Okay so I'm starting the pill and I was told by my doctor to take the sugar pill that corresponds with the day I start my period but say I start my period on a thursday, do I take the sugar pills that are from thursday and when it gets to the hormome ones to just take them or do I go back on the days previous to thursday and take them and then go onto the hormone ones? Please tell me that makes sense 🙏🙏
