10 months??

My friend told me you are pregnant for 10 months technically. How so??

40 weeks from your last period is considered "full term". So for the first two weeks you aren't technically "pregnant" but the egg is maturing, then you ovulate and the egg is fertilized then you usually don't find out until two weeks later. At which point they say you are 4 weeks pregnant. Then because each month doesn't have exactly 4 weeks (28 days) all are more than that except February (this year was a leap year so it has 29)... so the math of 40 weeks (280 days) is technically "10 months" but only if you think of each month as 4 weeks long.... really you are actually pregnant for 38/40 weeks, which would be about 9 months and 1 week.... it's why you are considered full term at 38 weeks but not really over due until 42 weeks.

it's 12 months in a year but 52 weeks . because 1month = 4 weeks and few days not just 4 weeks . so all these days that you have extra in each month come out to be extra few weeks . that's why 9 months =40 weeks not 36
you are only pregnant for 9 months not 10 months no matter when you took your pregnancy test
