Is my mom just special?

Question

My moms telling me with her 3 kids including me she NEVER had sore, dry, cracked nipples, and never had any problems getting us to latch correctly, basically breastfeeding was easy and perfect for her all 3 times. She says this as I'm considering taking a breastfeeding class and looking at nipple butter and stuff, "Breastfeeding has been done ever since humans existed, before lactation consultants and classes! It's the most natural
thing in the world. Your baby knows what to do. I never had any problems or discomfort" 
So is she just super blessed with perfect milk making nipples or is there some truth to what she's saying that basically all these products and all these classes are just marketing because humans have always known how to breastfeed and it's really not as scary or difficult as it may seem? My MIL has told me the same thing that it just comes naturally and there shouldn't be any problems

I think with things like that, time has made the not so pleasant parts fade from memory. My mother in law says how easy things were like that too, but I think it's because 30 years later, she has forgotten the bad parts.

I didn't have any cracking or bleeding either. My son was a great latcher and I had no supply issues, produced a ton of milk. That all being said, it was incredibly painful for the first 3 weeks. Then it was very easy.

Breast feeding was perfect for me! But nipples still got sore from so much sucking. But not from complications

She's special. In my opinion breastfeeding for me has been much harder then labor and delivery. My baby latched perfectly but my nipples were sensitive and cracked but didn't bleed. It was so painful I had to pump and give her a bottle for two weeks so they could heal. I just now finally feel like I'm in a good place and she's 3 months old. I was at the lactation consultants office four or five times just in the first couple weeks. I also went to a breastfeeding support Gould that was full of women with the same problem. Everyone is different for sure. You may have a great experience but honestly... There is SO much to learn about breastfeeding (hence why there is a full profession dedicated to it) that I would not skip taking a class. I only know one person who had an easy time breastfeeding.  Everyone else has needed some sort of support at one time or another. Good luck!

We didnt have any issues with our first but our second didnt latch well and had that been my first experience and i didnt know what it was suppose to be like, i would have been very concerned and upset. Taking a class is a good idea and then using the lactation consultant afterwards for any hiccups is a great idea

I think it's great for your mom, but I don't think anyone should feel ashamed if they need help, and I think that kind of talk can perpetuate shame. Not that she's trying to do that! But try not to let it get to your head if you don't have smooth sailing right away. Good luck!

If the baby has a tongue or lip tie it will make breastfeeding EXTREMELY painful and sometimes impossible. For me, breastfeeding was painful the first 3 weeks and then was perfect. It's possible that your mom and MIL just don't remember the short time when it wasn't easy, or they're super blessed.

My mom never had the cracking or anything, and she just got lucky. My sisters have had problems breastfeeding. Everyone is just different. My mom had every symptom when she was pregnant, I've barely had any.

She must just be special. My sil law couldn't do it bc hers crack so bad and my nephew wouldn't latch right. It makes me super neverous about breastfeeding when my lo gets here.
