"They'll do what they want anyway"

Is anyone else concerned at the prevalence of this mentality? What's the point of parenting if you just let your kid do whatever because they're going to anyway? I've always had the ultimate choice of doing what I wanted but part of my decision-making process growing up was recognizing there would be some sort of consequence for poor choices. Kids and teens need guidance and love and patience for sure, but they also need boundaries and to understand the cause and effect for certain decisions. Letting them do what they want without addressing it is just lazy.
