Getting a puppy
I've always wanted a dog and children. My husband and I are stable and have the money and space for a pet but we are unsure if it's a bad idea to get a puppy while trying to conceive.
My parents want a pet as well. However, we live in Canada and they go to Florida for 2 months every winter. So they have decided not to get a dog but are really excited about the prospect of pet sitting for us. So, I know the dog would have company during the day. I'm just wondering is it okay to have a young dog and a baby?
I would never want to be the type of people who get rid of a pet once they have a baby. I know there are exceptional circumstances but I've known a few people who have seemed to use a pet just as a temporary baby substitute.
Any thoughts on the timing of getting a pet when trying to conceive? Any personal experiences where this worked well or didn't?
