What is 4th of July?

So I'm an Australian and I am seeing lots of posts about "the 4th of July."

Just wondering, what is the meaning behind it and why and how is it celebrated?

"On July 4, 1776, the thirteen colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. Each year on July 4th, also known as Independence Day, Americans celebrate this historic event." It's celebrated by setting off shitloads of fireworks, throwing barbecues and getting drunk. Because y'know......MERICA.

Its like Australia day but its when they got independence instead of becoming a federation. Also more fireworks

It was the day america was created in 1793 the declaration of independence was signed & we were independent from Britain
