Should I take my maternity leave early? Or work until I'm due?

My job requires me to be on my feet all day, 10 hour shifts. Just wondering when I should take my maternity leave? Early or up until I'm due? I really don't want to go into labor at work! I think I'm mostly worried about the drive, I work a good 40 minutes from my home and hospital.

I took a week before my due date..I really didn't want to but my fiance and mom talked me into it. I'm now 5 days overdue and kinda hitting myself for doing that because that could have been one extra paycheck. But then I think about how angry and how close I came to slitting people's throats on a daily.. it probably WAS best that I left when I did...😅

I work also 40 mins away from home n my hospital but I also work in a medical center so I feel a bit more safe coming to work until my due date

I'd say until you get extremely uncomfortable. A due date is just a guess. You could go weeks early or weeks late. If you are still working and you are unsure about what you're feeling, I'd stay home. If you are at work and you start to feel even something slight, but it's not consistent, then leave early. You know your Brady better than anyone!

My job had me doing about 20,000 steps a day and I had intended to work until I went into labor but sadly my body couldn't even do 7,000 steps a day at 38 weeks and even though my job was accommodating me as best as they could, my being unable to remain on my feet wasn't fair to the business or my coworkers. So I was forced to go on leave a bit early. I say try to go to the end but listen to your body and don't feel discouraged if towards the end you just need rest.
