Doctor checking for dilation?

I'm almost 38 weeks and my doctor hasn't performed a vaginal exam yet to check for dilation? I have seen many posts from people less far along saying they are already dilated. Just wondering if anyone knows at what point will that evaluation be typically done?

I was told by the nurse that my doctor didn't feel that checking was helpful. He would only check if something seemed off ,but, that I could ask to be checked at any time. I politely declined a check.  I can understand wanting to know what's going on, but , I don't necessarily want anyone in my hooha that doesn't NEED to be 😁

Mine doesn't check at all unless you think you're in labour. The only reason I know is because I got a membrane sweep done. :) It's interesting to know, but doesn't necessarily mean anything. Your cervix can go from closed and hard to active labour in a couple hours, or you could be stuck at a couple cm dialated for weeks.

Every doctor checks at a different amount of weeks and some don't at all. And honestly it doesn't help to know if your dialated, makes you hope labor is coming soon when it might not be lol, I've been 3cm for 2 weeks now 😩

Mine checked at 36 weeks and again today (38 weeks) there's not much of a point I've been at 3cm since my 36 week appointment 😞 doesn't mean your any closer than someone at 1cm

My clinic doesn't check till I hit the due date. Last pregnancy they never got the chance cuz she was born 3 days before.

I started mine today at 36 weeks. You might have a doctor that doesn't believe in checking (on the philosophy that the baby will come when the baby come). You can always request one!

I asked at 35 weeks and my dr does it everytime now.
