Wrap versus carrier?

Question

Anyone with experience, could you tell me if you benefited a ton from a wrap or carrier and which one your preferred, why?

I was in the store this past weekend trying to figure out the wrap haha. Someone came over and helped me but I felt pretty funny and def question whether that's an option for me now :-)

I'm a babywearing leader on my local community. Depending on The climate where you live you may love or hate a Moby style wrap. I live in Southern California and even though I'm due in October I will be choosing other carriers then a moby because there's so many layers that have to go over the baby for a secure hold i'd be a sweaty mess.  If you live in a colder climate I'd say a moby is awesome for small babies typically under 15 pounds. If you choose a soft structured carrier like a ergo you'll need a infant insert till the baby is around 4 to 6 months. There are a few carriers that are an exception to this like the ergo adapt or a Lillebaby 
Try looking for a local group on Facebook that can give you some hands on help choosing a carrier that works best for your situation. And feel free to ask me questions!

I loved my wrap with my newborn. Absolute life saver until about 4 or 5 months. Then we switched to an ergo carrier. The wrap I loved because it swaddled the new baby just right like they like. When baby starts to learn how to sit then the ergo carrier is the best. The distributes their weight perfectly.

Have you thought about a ring sling? I used one with my daughter from 3wks until she could fit in the ergo. I loved it and so did she! I plan to do it again with this next one.

I have the Moby wrap, it looks really confusing, but once you used it a couple times it's super easy. There are videos on YouTube that can help. Personally I thought it was way easier to use especially for hands free stuff, like doing the dishes and stuff around the house. And seemed better for new borns. My husband wouldn't even give it a try though and he loved having a carrier, we have an ergo too. I used that more for around town.

We were given a moby wrap that I'll probably use when she's super tiny, and a Tula after that. I'm going to get the infant insert for the Tula as well and see which one she likes better!

It really depends what you like. I have carriers and wraps. I liked my carriers more but once I learned to wrap, I enjoy those more and they are my go to, especially now while pregnant. Carriers tend to be easy on and off but bulky and hot. Wraps can be much cooler and are more customizable in how you wrap so you can always make sure you're comfortable.

I had both and used the carrier only. I tried the wrap once but it just seemed like a lot of fabric and way harder to get into. I'm sure if you use it a lot it gets easier, but I loved my Boba Carrier and so did my husband. And you can use it from newborn until like 35 pounds (front and then back carry).

I have a friend who used a carrier for the first six months or so. Her, her husband, & the baby loved it. At one point it was getting really hot outside & the carrier made her baby too hot so she got a wrap & said that's been working better. I have the same problem as you with wraps, though. I haven't had my baby yet, but I can't figure them out & they just don't feel as secure for me.
