Thinking about getting a puppy when baby is born ?!

Me and my boyfriend have been thinking about getting a puppy when are baby is born so they can grow up together. Are baby isn't due unlit March so we have a lot of time but I'm not sure what kind of dog to get are little one when he or she is here any ideas?

Oh my god you are brave!! We have 2 labs and and are due in October. My oldest is 5 and is amazing with nothing to worry about he just does his thing. My youngest just turned a year and we've had her since last November. She's been in puppy class and lots of training. We are JUST now getting to the point where I am starting to trust her more to be alone. Puppies are hard work especially if you train them right. Plus the younger they are the more attention they need, I.e walks potty breaks mental stimulation etc. I'm a FTM but I've heard babies are hard work too. Maybe get the puppy now so you aren't adjusting to both at the same time. Just my two cents!

I have 2 pitbulls and honestly they are amazing with kids. I know all of the hype and what you see on the media. But they are so loving and protective. I believe dogs are just like children, they learn from what they are shown. If a child is only shown badness they more than likely they will be bad, same as any kind of dog. If you get it as a puppy and raise it right they are the most amazing dogs! Your child will have a best friend for life:)

I think it's a great idea! All I would say is treat the puppy right, I think with a newborn baby consuming your life it could be hard to give the puppy the love, attention, training and discipline it needs! Training is crucial as a pup, my dog is a year and a half and we rescued him at 8 weeks, we trained him basic commands but not well enough, he destroys things in the house, jumps up at anyone walking in the door? Pulls on the leash ect, now we have a new baby coming we have had to put him in intense adult training which is not cheap or fun for me or my pup. Also remember that he needs love and attention too, please don't get a puppy to throw him outside all day when he gets on your nerves or wen the baby needs more attention! Other than its an awesome idea for a dog and baby to grow up together! Please please consider adopting from a shelter rather than buying from a breeder, most shelters have puppies of all breeds that are healthy and need a home!

I would get the puppy while you're pregnant so you can potty train it before baby gets here. I couldn't imagine potty trying a puppy and haveing a newborn. We had our dog before our daughter was born and they're still best friends!

I think it's a great idea! We got our puppy half way thought the pregnancy, so I didn't have to worry about potty training and what not once LO is here. He's still not here yet, 8 days😩 but I can let you know! Plus, I would get an intelligent breed... Like a golden retriever or a lab. Ours is lab mix.. When she was a baby she looked pure bred lab now you can see other dogs like boxer and pit and hound. We rescued, so all we got were papers stating that she was obviously lab mix lol 😂

We got two 6wk old lab puppies before finding out about my dtr... first of all 2 was a nightmare. But I think getting one would be ok  my dtr loves the dogs. She loves the cats too but the dogs have always been so good with her

My parents got a german shepherd puppy 2-3 months after I was born, so we grew together. I loved that dog like craaazy, one of the best parts of my childhood. We already have 3 dogs, none of them puppies, but I don't think there's anything better than kids & puppies growing together 😍 I'm a super crazy in love dog person though so may be a bit bias.
