Insurance companies are required to cover the cost of them (with a few exceptions). Call to see what they will cover and what you need for it. I have Cigna and they covered medela after 28weeks with a doctor's prescription. I already received it in the mail! I would recommend getting it beforehand so you can clean it and bring with you to the hospital for assistance by lactation consultants to make sure you are using t correctly and/or have the correct size pieces.

I'm going to buy mine afterwards. First I want to make sure I can breast feed and there is enough milk. I'm going to be at home for six months after birth so hopefully I won't need a pump for a while. Depends how I get on and if I want my partner to feed baby too. 
It's on my list but not as an essential I need before birth. Probably after a month or two.

It really depends. Medela is typically super reliable. If you're working full time, you're going to want to fork out the money for a good, reliable single or double electric pump. If you're part time or a stay at home you can probably get away with a single electric or manual. It all depends on how often you expect to use it. I am planning to try to store up milk to donate, so I got an evenflo electric. It is a bit louder than most pumps but not crazy. I also have a medela harmony (manual pump) and I would stake my eldest son's life on. It saved my life when I was engorged last pregnancy.

So think about how much you're going to work/ how often you'll use the pump. The more frequent, the better quality you'll want. If you're full time working and trying to pump I wouldn't recommend a manual unless you want carpal tunnel 😂 but I'd suggest any way you go to get a manual back up! My medela harmony was $45 and it paid back every penny.

My insurance allowed me to order at 32 weeks and mine is a medela. I tried using it already lol, pretty easy
