We've had a dog for almost a year and he still growls and whips his head around anytime our daughter grazes him, gets too close, touches him....dead asleep or watching her approach. Would you be fearful and rehome the dog?

I have been attacked by three dogs in my 28 years. The first was my cousin's poodle and it bit my hand. The second was the neighbor's half chow chow, half wolf. He ripped my clothes from just under my arm to my mid thigh before the neighbor pulled him off. Thank God he didn't get ahold of me.

The last was a black lab. I was supposed to be house sitting for some good friends and had been regularly over at their house, so the dog knew me well. While she was showing me where things were located out back, we were petting the dogs and talking. With no warning, no bark or growl or raised hair or bared teeth, the dog lunged at me, bit me, and then walked away, like it never happened.

I ended up missing half of my bottom lip, over 100 internal stitches, plastic surgery on my face, and five laser surgeries to help with scarring. All from one bite with no warning. I still have very little feeling in that side, an approximately 4 inch scar across my face, and a permanently fat lip. And I still praise God that the attack did not continue and that the other dog didn't join in.

This lady had two very small children and was a stay at home mama. After the required quarantine time, they were going to keep the dog...until it tried to go through the glass back door and attack the mama. They then decided to get rid of the dog. I'm so thankful that it got me at 18 instead of her, alone at home with her kids, or one of her babies.

Please, don't wait until your dog attacks or even bites that precious child. If you are getting warning growls and sneers, that's a warning to pay attention to. It's obvious that the dog has a hard time with children, and some dogs do. Even with the proper training, your child could trip over the dog or pull it's tail in play, and set off the dog.

It is obviously  your choice, but if my dog now ever even growled at my toddler, he'd be a gone dog. On average, a dog brings down over 300 lbs of pressure with one bite.

I had a dog back when I lived with my parents, a little chihuahua. So technically not anything fierce. BUT she would do all the things youre saying to my daughter. (When I moved out I left the dog there) My daughter wants to love on her and pet her. In the beginning she would growl and snarl. We made my daughter keep her distance and were very firm with the dog. If she nipped at her for anything my dad would pop her with his hand. Now my daughter is 2 1/2 years old and the dog lets her pet her. She will play fetch with her and stuff. But you can see it in the dogs eyes that she doesn't want my daughter to touch her too much but will still let her. When we see her agitated, we will separate them and tell the dog no! We have not had any incidences. But all dogs are different... Just be carefull.

You can definitely train him. We're currently training our kitten because she's ROUGH when she wants to play. Like teeth cause me to bleed rough. So far she hasn't bit my friends 2 year old but she's cautious and you can see it. A little pop on the nose, spray bottle, and a firm NO will help. Kitty is getting the hang of it.

Just because he doesn't seem to be adjusting, and doesn't tolerate her, I'd rehome to someone with no little ones. Usually I'm not fearful of dogs and babies at all, but because of his actions  I'd say it's probably better to find him a new home

Was it a rescue? This is why we don't rescue dogs because of this reason. If you can't tame him or retrain him, your best option would be to regime him. I'm sorry.

Training is not necessary it's the dogs instinct. Especially if the dog has already had training
