Checking your temp daily..?

What exactly is the point of checking your temperature daily when ovulating? To find out when you are ovulating?

My fertile window starts tomorrow and I just want to know as much as I need to about ttc. This will be our first try at it..

It gives you the best info about when/if you ovulate. A positive OPK doesn't always mean you definitely are ovulating and it can be days later or right away. Plus you can see your pattern and figure out sooner that you probably aren't pregnant and I've saved my sanity and lots of tests because I can tell my temp is dipping and I'll start AF soon. Basal body temping is very specific. You have to take it every day of your cycle, first thing in the morning before doing anything else as soon as you wake up, because it needs to be your resting temperature, the reason you have to take it every day is so that you can detect the EXACT day you ovulate. The way it works is, in the first half of your cycle your temps will be in a certain range, then the day after ovulation, your temp jumps up (due to a hormonal change triggered by ovulation) and then stays up until a day or so before af, so you can guarentee the day before your temp spike was ovulation day because the temp spike, caused by progesterone, can't happen unless you ovulate (the progesterone comes from the little cyst left behind where the egg was released from on your ovary)
