Cervical check causing labor?

Has anyone gone into labor shortly after getting their cervix checked? I'm 39+5 and 4cm, 70% effaced today. The check hurt much more than usual today and I've been having consistent period cramps ever since, about 2 hours now. They are pretty uncomfortable but not coming like contractions, just there non-stop. My doctor was surprised I made it to my appt today and said he'd be very surprised to see me next week. Hoping the check could have jump started things?!
