College or forget it?

Kinda really lost right now. I just graduated high school last year and now my mom and untie wants me to go to college and I personally do not want to go. I would like to but I just know my heart isn't there. I would love to be in the nursing Field .. (medical assisting) but om not good with school I honestly hate it and I know tutor comments will come but if ya heart ain't there then why waste time? My aunt and mom are upset because I don't wanna do college but I feel Like they shouldn't force it upon ir just ir me be free and see somewhere down the line that I made a mistake i hopefully can fix... so my question for you all are an I wrong? Should I just go head and do it ? Idk. .. help? 😔 im 20 btw 21 11/11

Why dont you do a small ma course before you jump into college like seriously dont break your head going into college now . Its never too late to later on to go to school do what your heart tells you .

I've always thought that right out of high school was too soon to decide on a career and invest all that money in a degree. You need a chance to gain some job experience and know what you really want to do. I'm 30 and still figuring out what I want. Also, not using my degree.

You're going to have an extremely hard time finding a decent paying job with no degree. Like another comment said, if two people go for a job and one has a degree while the other doesn't, the one with the degree has a very high probability of getting the job. There's no way that I know of to get into the nursing field without a degree so sweetie, you may have to suck it up for the 4+ years. The nursing field always has openings, would you rather get a job basically right out of school that pays well or struggle to get by because there's barely any non-degree jobs hiring that pay well? Yes, school is extremely difficult I know. I'm working two jobs full time and still going to school full time for a major and minor in the medical field. There's time where I absolutely break down and cry because it feels so overwhelming but I promise, if you take the plunge and go to school you won't regret it! Plus I've met so many friends from school that I'm actually excited to go back!

College isn't for everyone but these day majority of people have a college degree even to do jobs that don't require one. Most likely if two people apply for the same job the person with the degree will likely get it. I took a break from school and I am now finishing my bachelors. I think it's smart to take your time and go when you're ready.

I'm 21 and still haven't gone. I think you should go when YOU are ready & can really apply yourself to it. Don't let anyone decide this for you. Nothing wrong with taking time off and exploring the world and learning a bit about yourself first

Do what you wanna do girl, college is always gonna be there. Take some time off to think about it, get a job and focus on making money for awhile while you figure shit out. You've got plenty of time. It's perfectly normal to be unsure

Hey there. I never wanted to go to college. But I did what my parents wanted and went straight to a university out of state. Hated it. Moved back home to go to a local university. Hated it. Switched to community college and you guessed it, hated it. I love learning don't get me wrong. But college has turned into a bunch of politically correct dumb asses sitting in a class together getting tested on their regurgitating skills. I've been unhappy for many years. And it's only gotten worse. My depression went through the roof this semester and I stopped going to classes. I felt like a fuck up and a disspointmeant to my family, but even worse I felt fake. I was living a lie. My values and goals diminished until I felt like I didn't have my own personality anymore. An education is incredibly important. I've taught myself Spanish 2, basic japanese, much of Ayn Rand ' s philosophy, basic astronomy, and some neuroscience even. I was finally able to learn the things I wanted to and at a pace I wanted. I was able to travel and go camping for a week in the middle of the week. I was so much happier. Bottom line here is never live your life for someone else. I don't give a fuck what any of these commenters said. You've gotta live your life for you

I would do whatever your heart desires. Maybe if you're confused about it, take a year and tell your parents that when that year is up you'll make your decision & see what you truly want to do.

If you don't have to have college for what you want to do now and your hearts not in it, then you need to wait. Do your training program for medical assisting (if you need one to get a certificate or license) and start working. Once you get into you may change your mind on college and want to dive deeper into the medical field or do something totally different.  If they are disappointed tell them you're sorry, but it's not their life and you know at this point it will just be a waste due to lack of commitment. My parents were disappointed at first that I didn't go to college. But I did go to a trade school and my mom and step dad were content with that. And with my career built up and me loving what I do, they knew it was the right move for me. My dad and step mom (more my step mom by a lot) still want me to go and gave tried guilting me into going. They try to tell me that I'll make more  money with a college degree, but in my field  (I'm a licensed massage therapist) that's not even close to true. I do classes at least every other year to learn new things, expand my practice, make my less physical, some things I can actually make more money by doing and  keep license.
