Is it normal?

My LO is 17 days old and she only nurses for about 10-15 minutes. She releases the latch on her own and will burp and go right to sleep. I keep reading a nursing session should last about 20-45 minutes. Is it normal she drinks half of that?

The average is 20 minutes so I'd say your good as long as she had enough wet diapers.

My son is almost 4 weeks and does about 10 min each side and during the day usually only does one side per feeding. I was worried at first but the dr said he's gaining 2 oz a day!! My letdown is strong and he's quite the chugger so I think he just gets what he needs quickly. If his pee is clear and he's peeling/pooping every feeding that's your signal that baby is getting enough to eat!

When my lo was born I had the same problem, I was worried he wasn't  getting enough. But after my midwife weighed him she recognised he'd drank enough and was satisfied. Today he's 10 months and I'm he started eating with the help of the Avent food processor and breastfeeding..

She just may be better at removing milk. Every baby is different!

She may be getting all she needs from that short amount of time...if she is sleeping 2-3 hours before being hungry again I don't see a problem.  Maybe try waking her up or try and tickle her feet or behind her ear so she doesn't fall asleep that quickly if you are worried.  When my son was a newborn he would eat in short amounts of time in the beginning and wouldn't be hungry for another 2/3 hours after.  Sometimes he sat and took his time, some babies mean business while others like to take their time.  As long as she is gaining weight I wouldn't be too worried.
