Home birth and midwives?

How does it work? Is it expensive and do they cover it with insurance? I am very interested but need some more information.

It depends more on state laws and regulations than your plan. My insurance won't cover a home birth in Georgia, but they cover midwife births at hospitals or birthing centers. I'm thinking you're way more likely to have coverage in Jersey; I know it's covered in New York. I would call and ask! Good luck!

Often less expensive than a hospital, but not all insurance treat them the same. Call the number on the back of your ins card, they can give you preferred (aka more cost efficent) provider info for any service they cover.

Home birth is not covered where I live (Georgia) so I am paying out of pocket... Its not much more than the deductible would be if I had a hospital birth...its worth the money to me for sure. If you are really interested you can lookup and call midwives in your area and find it which ones do free consultations and you can meet with then and they will give you a full explanation of the process & care... Very helpful!
