How does anyone ever afford anything!?

I know people work hard for what they have but we work so hard. After high school I worked a full time job plus a part time job to, whilst my husband was a full time student at college and worked a full time job too. Between us our money got him through school almost debt free (he took out some loans for his last 2 semesters which he is paying back now) also our rent on our cockroach studio apartment, a car for the both of us to share (I usuallyy had to catch 2 buses to work or wait around a few hours for my husband to pick me) our phone bills and basic groceries. He graduated college over a year ago and has got a pretty good job, he has a 4 year bachelors degree however we are still living pay check to paycheck, we moved to California (more expensive but more job opportunities plus his family are here) we got a 1 bed apartment (although I appreciate we have a roof over our heads it's still not the nicest apartment, all our furniture comes from Craigslist or goodwill) his job pays for our rent and he also managed to get me a car to make working easier! So when we first moved here I worked full time, I had hoped to work part time and go to school but we couldn't afford it, thennnn I fell pregnant (we are super happy and excited and we have enough money to support her and buy her everything she needs done get me wrong) but I went down to part time and now since I am almost die I am not working at all! Once she comes I won't be able to go back to work as we have no child care. Don't get me wrong we are living comfortably and I really appreciate that but I'm just wandering how people afford luxurious things!? How people afford to take trips and buy houses? We are sparse on our groceries and I buy everything from the dollar store/Ross/Walmart. I can't afford nice makeup or clothes. I just don't get how people do it!!!?!?
