Do you think it's bad that I don't want to open my gifts infront of my guest at the baby shower?

I'm a little shy and I don't like being the center of attention.

Seeing the Momma open her presents is my favorite part of baby showers! I'd personally be a little offended if the guest of honor didn't open them at the party. Try to maybe do it on a smaller scale, opening a few here and there throughout instead of everyone watching at the same time.

Another option is to do more of an open house style shower and as each person arrives you open their present and then put all the opened presents in an area on display so everyone can see what you've received...
I hate being the centre of attention too so am hoping for more of a co-Ed shower so my husband will be there with me.

I hate watching people open shower presets. It is torture.  We all looked at your registry. We all saw what you picked out. We all saw what was purchased. I do not need to "ooohh and ahhhhh" over every onsie.  When people skip the presents I want to hug them with gratitude. I am more than happy to give you a gift to show my love and support without watching you perform for me while opening it. I do not need that validation.

My own shower will be a couples shower - in part - so I can avoid opening presents. No one makes men suffer through this crap. (I also think my husband is becoming a parent too and should be involved in preparing for our child.)

I don't understand this tradition. In my family and where I was raised opening gifts at parties is considered extremely tacky!

Send detailed thank you notes and open at home! Don't even think twice about it. You aren't alone.

My cousin had a shower where they didn't open the gifts at the event and everyone was pissed. Baby showers are boring, let's get real here. The only exciting part is seeing the cute baby stuff as you open presents. We usually do cake and presents at the same time so everyone can eat their cake and then relax after while watching the presents being opened.
I have anxiety and hate being the center of attention as well, but in our family you suck it up and do it or you don't have a shower.
Unpopular opinion? Maybe. But where I am if you don't open presents at the event it's considered extremely rude and gift-grabby.
That said, you know your crowd better than we do, so it's hard to say if they would look down on you for it or not. Do what you want though.

It's your baby shower and you get to do whatever you want. It's not about the guests' preference s, it's about you and your partner! I also would not want to open my gifts in front of people and would rather keep the shower focused on just togetherness and celebrating :)

Or have them bring them unwrapped. If kids are involved which I did not want but got... then they will force the opening and you have to pay really close attention to who got you what

I would do something such as state beforehand, your plans of being private like maybe in the invite? Then have your 'party', accept the gifts and then open them once everyone is done with refreshments, games and has left. Just be sure to write thank you notes to everyone.
