Just wait until you have a boy...😒
Earlier today I was at the park with two friends, one of whom is pregnant with her first boy and currently has 2 girls (I am also having my first boy and have a daughter already). The other mom has a 4 yr old boy who is consistently aggressive and quite challenging. This mom spent most of our play date policing her son and disciplining him. My heart went out to her as I watched her get more and more embarrassed. My empathy came to a halt when she lashed out at myself and my preggo friend "You have it SO easy with girls. I can't wait to watch you with your boys!"
Don't get me wrong...I am not naive when it comes to gender differences between boys and girls. I have spent 7 yrs as a kindergarten teacher and 10 before that as a preschool/daycare teacher. I am well aware of the stereotypical differences! Although some traits may be biological, I firmly believe that our children are a blend and nature/nurture. We simply can not assume all little girls are precious angels and that all little boys are terrorizing monsters.
Was I wrong to be put off by her statement? I realize I am in for a new reality with a boy coming, but the fact that she's anxiously awaiting my stress and chaos upsets me.
At the end of the day..Boy or girl sometimes it's just behavior problems needing addressing.
