Do you still get maternity leave if you adopt a baby?

This is just the weird stuff that pops into my mind, if you adopt a newborn baby do you still get maternity leave? From what I understand maternity leave is like "yo girl take a break u just popped a baby out of your vagina or had your body cut open either way take a few weeks for yourself and baby" but what if you don't give birth?

It all depends on who you work for and their policy but my job just revamped their maternity leave and we get 16 weeks at 100% pay For either adoption or birth of your own child

Yes, and if it is a two parent home, both parents can get 12 weeks of fmla. My friend adopted and she and her husband staggered their fmla so that for the first 6 months a parent stayed home. She took her 12 weeks first and then when she ran out, he took his.
