Folic acid?

I been trying for 13months. I have had 3 chemical pregnancys (miscarriage before 5 weeks)  my doctor told me to take folic acid. So for the last few weeks I have been taking it along with my prenatels  What does it do? I know it is good for you but can it help in my situation or is it just a extra vitamin.

It is very important to take folic acid as soon as you start trying for a baby. If you do not take folic acid and fall pregnant then you are putting your baby at risk as your baby will need the extra folic acid for the spine to develop. Not taking folic acid will increase you chances of miscarriage or your child being born with a disability

For the past few days I have been researching about prenatals helping prevent miscarriage. So far, what I got from a few articles, vitamins B6 & B12 makes a big difference also. I don't know if it's true but I do know that prenatals are good to take before pregnancy to get your body ready for it. Your prenatals should already have folic acid in them so that should be good enough. Prenatals, to me, also have more vitamins that your body needs before and during pregnancy than just folic acid alone. Speak with your doctor on the subject a little more and get their opinion. Folic acid helps provent neural tube defects. I take 5 tablets as well as my prenatals. I am a type 1 diabetic so there is a much higher chance of neural tube defects. It's never a bad idea to take an extra folic acid. It won't help you get pregnant but it certainly won't hurt. Good luck :)
