Irregular period! Help!

My boyfriend today told me that his mom was stating that because I have an irregular period that it might be hard for me to get pregnant in the future. Is she right? My typical cycle is around 30 days, I'm just 2-3 days late on some periods and I last 8 days. And its been a couple times in the past that my period is a week late. Is it bad? Should I go see a doctor?
