Tylenol now linked to ADHD WTH?!

Question

I just read an article, and a peer reviewed medical study to back it up, and it has linked the use of acetaminophen (Tylenol) during weeks 18-32 of pregnancy to behavioral problems in children. Including ADHD. I took it at least 20 times during those weeks and was given Tylenol during both premature labor hospitalizations. Scary.

The drawbacks of the study are that they didn't list the dosage. They might have been taking it 24/7 for that entire time period. That being said I caught a cold and I'm refusing to even take Tylenol! Too afraid.

I found an NPR article discussing that study. What the original article doesn't mention is that many of the people who reported behavioral issues also reported smoking during pregnancy, drinking during pregnancy, or other mental health issues... In addition, they didn't ask these people how much they took... They could have been taking pills like candy for all we know.

I definitely recommend looking up the NPR article. It outlines a lot of good information that puts the original study into some perspective.

I took Tylenol my whole pregnancy.   I think we are going a little overboard with all these worries.. do you really think pain meds during labor are safer.. or antidepressants pregnant.. or a glass of wine. Relax ladies

Ehh, doesn't bother me. I took Tylenol a few times during that time frame and even though I'm out of that now and sitting in week 36, I'm now taking it to battle a cold. It is what it is. 🙆🏻

I will not be taking any medication in general for anything. Only thing I'm putting in is my vitamin and that's it.

I'm not really freaked out. ADHD isn't a death sentence, I'm sure our babies will be perfectly fine lol

I wouldn't pay much attention to it as every medication has some kind of link or disadvantage whilst pregnant. Half the time its totally fine and just over reactive studies. Same with foods. I ate everything with my girl as i wasnt aware i was pregnant i drank the lot and my girls 11 perfectly healthy

I personally haven't taken any medication throughout my pregnancy, however in the study I read the chances apparently go from 3-4% in children of mothers who didn't take it compared to 5% in the ones who did.

I try and take as little as possible during pregnancy but I took it with all of mine, I tend to suffer from bad pregnancy headaches. And none of my kids have adhd.
