Root Canals during first trimester?

Question

The dentist said I need to have 3 (ugh, THREE!) root canals and he wants to do it next week. I'll be 6 weeks pregnant. He said it's fine and there's no risk to the baby but I don't feel very comfortable with it. Anyone else have dental issues/experiences to share?

I'm not in pain and wouldn't have an issue with waiting until the second trimester, but am concerned if an infection might happen...

Oh man! You can verify whatever they are using is ok like Lidocaine. The thing that stinks is recovery. Ask what they will prescribe for after the procedure and check with your OB. My heart goes out to you! Root canals aren't easy, but might be necessary to keep infection out. I had an infected one and it was terrible!

I had some dental (mouth?) work done with my last pregnancy. I had novacane and the dentist lazored off the bottom part of my chin/gun because it was pulling the gums from my teeth. Not a root canal or anything but I had novacane. I felt weird about it, but while t was happening I didn't worry. Baby came out fine

You don't want to wait until you are in pain - certainly not good for you or baby. You could always get a second opinion, too, if that would ease your mind. But like you said, want to avoid infection and don't want to let it go so long that you're writhing in pain.
