Scheduling an obgyn appointment for the first time?!

I am having a ton of anxiety over this, but I need to schedule an obgyn appointment as I'm 24 and have never been (dumb, I know.. my parents are from another country and this was never something that my mom would have ever spoken to me about). Anyways, I have ridiculous anxiety and I can't help it. I've read up on the exam itself, but nothing about actually making the phone call to schedule the appointment.. ugh 🙈🙈🙈 like do I have to call and ask them if they're taking new patients or can I just tell them I want to schedule an appointment.. I'm so nervous to the point where even thinking about this whole ordeal (making the appointment AND going to it) are going to give me a panic attack. My husband said he wants to go with me because we have unsuccessfully been TTC for 1+ years now, but I think having him go would make me feel even more uncomfortable 😭 the struggle is so real

Just call them and be honest. Say that you are not currently a patient but would like to make an appt if possible. Explain that you've never been before and ask what to expect.  They will be able to tell you what you need to know.

I would say just call and tell them that you would like to make an appointment. They normally ask if you have ever been there and what it's for. You just tell them that you need a check up and would like to talk to the Dr. My hubby went with me to mine and I was more comfortable with him in there. It's akward enough meeting someone new who is looking at your underneath. My OBGYN was great. He talks to me the whole time about other things and before you know it it will be over. I would suggest writing your questions down if you have any tho.

Hang in there! It may help to write down what you want to say. Anxiety is a beast. Just remember you are not alone on making that first call.
When they answer, just say "hello, I would like to make a new patient appointment." Then the person will either work with you on the date or tell you they aren't taking new patients. If they ask the purpose of the visit, you can say "fertility concerns" or "just a check up." You don't need to go into a ton of detail with the scheduler.
My husband came with me to my first OBGYN appointment but I was pregnant. I didn't go until I was 27. I didn't think it was awkward at all. My husband had seen me naked and been all up in my business (I mean, that IS how I got pregnant) so it wasn't anything new he hadn't seen before. I found it competing and helpful to have him there, actually. He helped me remember what questions to ask.
Just remember, if you don't like the OBGYN, you can always go to a different one. You want to feel comfortable and trust your doctor, especially because of what you'll be discussing and what exams you may have.
Breathe, relax, and then make the call. It will be easier than you anticipate.

Where I am your family doctor has to give you a referral to an obgyn. Call an office and ask if they're accepting new patients. It's not a big deal at all, once you go you'll see how easy it is

It's not as bad as it sounds! I hated calling and making my own appointments!! Lol it gets easier! Sometimes you can look the place up online and it may say they are taking new patients, and they might have the paperwork on there you can print to fill out and bring. I would just ask if they are taking new paitents and if they say yes ask to schedule an appointment and they will usually ask some basic questions, and what your coming in for. You maybe even be able to request an appointment online! 😬 my first time I was scared but it wasn't has bad as I thought it was going to be. Good luck! 🙃
